Harriers
OLD BOYS' MEMORIAL
RACE FROM BROOKLYN
COOKE CUP RUN AGAIN
By "Trail-layer."
The Wellington Harrier ClUb was to hold the Old Boys'.Memorial race of five, miles at Brooklyn this afternoon. Thfs breaks new ground for racing, and a very solid course should be the result. This race was originally a
steeplechase held from, tho Trentham racecourse, but lack of funds and small membership have made it advisable to localise the event, in order to have a maximum T-umbor of entries. The strenuous na-. ,o of tho country would bo' of advantage to the slower but stronger members who would have little hope of competing with M. Cooke, tho Club champion, over a flat course.
Lyall Bay was to bo the scene of two .races this afternoon. The 'University Club was to t hold a five-mile handicap over ono lap of the Vosseler course. "With tho runners all beginning to reach top form, some keon racing was anticipated and the backmarkers would have to excel to reach the previous positions. The Brooklyn Harriers were to rerun tho Cooko Cup race over the same courso as' the University Club used. The .finishing positions jWero expected to be very different from those in the first race, chiefly owing to tho great improvement shown by many of the younger members. ' ,
