Miss Evaugeline Devcrell (formerly of Wellington) has written a Canadian fairy tale-: -entitled.".Alan. Singh," which is to be published in August by ilessrs. Houghton, of Regent Street. The scene is laid in' the Yukon. The book will have 13 illustrations by the well-known English artist, Scott-Snell. Miss Deverell's previous book was entitled "The Fairy Tales of a Nursery Governess." These' short stories subsequently appeared- in the Milwaukee '' Sunday Journal" and the " Chicago "Sunday Tribune," and as a gratifying result Miss .Deverell was elected a member of the Authors' League of America. Some of her writings on child culture have been syndicated. , The "Saturday Review" has an appreciative reference to Miss Seanlan's "Winds of Heaven." The reviewer refers to this "accomplished journalist's easy-flowing colourful style." She has "a lively sense of humour and a keen ' appreciation .of the finer of character."' These "combine to enhance the.interest of a story brimful of incident." . . .
: At St, Mark's, Antvqbus, Cheshire, on June 7, Reginald Lionel warren was married' to Elisabeth Bryde (Betty) Clements. \, There-are, friends in New Zealand who will^be interested. The engagement"'is, between Duncan, only son of the late Donald Macrae, ojKintail and Assam, and.-Mrs. W. N. Edwards, 3 Temple Gardens, and Rosemary, younger daughter of Admiral and Mrs. Hall-Thomp-son, of Tynwald, Hythe, Kent.
Mrs.' E. A. Wilson is still in Africa, where she has. been . spending some months. She Vent first to Kenya, ■then to Tanganyika, and when last news was received she was staying at Salisbury, Southern Bhodesia. The life of her husband, "Edward Wilson of the" Antarctic," whose author is George Seaver, is having a large circulation, and weut ijato. its fourth ini-j pression last January.
The wedding was solemnised on June 12 of Mr. Frank William Grant, chief engineer of the.New Zealand Shipping Company, and Miss Margaret B. Mead, daughter of Mrs. Mead, of Blenheim, and sister of Major Owen H. Mead, D.5.0., New Zealand Staff Corps, now resident in Dunedin. Tne bride has been living in London for storne years. The ceremony was performed by the Sev. Dr. MoTris, Vicar of St. Marylebone- Parish Church. The bride, who was given away by Major B. Jones, was in a very becoming two-pieco frock of the new colour "ice-blue," with a shady hat of .exactly the same rich shade, wreathed with flowers. She carried a bouquet of deep yellow roses. Miss Marion Gbyen (Dunedin) was bridesmaid in a dainty frock of cham-pagne-tinted tu)le, printed with flowers in delicate tones, and a picture hat of pale pink open-straw, which matched her bouquet of shaded pink sweetpeas. Mr. Campbell Smith was the best man.
_, A number of New Zealand and English friends attended the service and then went on to the. bride's residence in Hampstead, where the reception was held. The guests present included: Mrs. H. V. Winsbury White, her daughter, Mrs. Ivan Phipps, and her sister, Miss Goyen (all from Dunedin), Miss Isabel Chaytor, Mrs. Lester, Miss Dorothy Chaytor, Miss Dorothy Davies (Chiistehureh), Mr. Leslie WDkie, Mrs. Renwick, Mr. Tresizo, Miss Dilys-jqnes, Professor P. S. MeCallum, Mr. Stafford Byrne, Mr. Aubrey Wyatt, Miss Trevor Fisher, Colonel and Mrs* Clapham, Mrs. Benthall, Mrs. Austen Harrison, Captain and Mrs. A. Johnstone, Mr.' and Mrs. Geldart (Wellington), and Mr.
. The first part of; the, wedding trip was to be spent in Scotland and then iollowed a tour of the Italian Lakes. Mr. Grant arrived by the Otaki. He expects, on Teturn from holiday leave, to be posted to another vessel. During her husband's voyages Mrs. Grant win remain in her comfortable London home.
