WOMEN'S CLUB
MEETING AT ALICETOWN
The Alicetown Women's Club held a very successful meeting recently, presided over by Mrs. Cox. There was a record attendance, over a hundred being present. Among the visitors were some from the Belmont and Stokes Valley. Institutes and Miss Maddever, of "Wellington. The guest of honour was Mrs. W. Nash, who, has agreed to be the patron of the club. A. beautiful bouquet was presented to her from the members.
The club having been in existence twelve months, the meeting took the form of a "birthday" afternoon. Musical items were given by Mrs. Walker. An instrumental" trio was given by Mesdames Douglas, Nichols, and Milson, and Miss Peggy Barker pleased the audience with items on the ukulele. The dramatic circle gave two sketches. The first was entitled "The Matrimonial Advertisement," those taking part being:—Aunt Martha (Mrs. Lockwood), Uncle Cyrus (Mrs. J. Annear), Jack Colo (Mrs. Mclrose), Mary Cole (Mrs. Bird), and Grandma Cole (Mrs. D. Annear). "Mrs. Sharp Marries Again" followed, tho cast being as follows:—Bride (Mrs. Shand), Bridegroom (Mrs. McDougall), Parson (Mrs. Lockwood), Aunt: Zoe - (Miss Duncan), Alison (Mrs. Melrose), Mary (Mrs. Henry). Both sketches were well received, and it was decided that the dramatic circle is a great asset to the club. A competition was won by Mrs. Jarvis, the prize being donated by Mrs. McATtney.
Thanks were given to all those who helped to make the afternoon such a success. The beautiful cake, made by Mr. Naismith, was cut by Mrs "W. Nash. Afternoon tea and the singing of the National Anthem brought the meeting to:'a close; </■■■'" " '■■•..
