< \ Bound Table Club. ,- . An interesting item at Hhc monthly luncheon of the Y.W.C.A. Business and Professional Women's Bound Table Club was given by Mr. Walter Nash, ~M.JP., who spoke on "Japan." When attending conferences at Honolulu and Banff, Canada, Mr. Nash met many' notable Japanese, and from these- contacts came to know a good deal about the Japanese people. While not discussing the Tightness, or wrongness of the world's attitude towards Japan today, Mr. Nash endeavoured.to give his listeners an .. understanding, of the Japanese point' of view, and of the problems confronting a country, which cannot produce sufficient food for its population and yet which:4s denied the right of migration to other countries or of exporting its manufactured goods in return for . foodstuffs. Society, arranged a most successful bridge afternoon in the Eealm Hall. In spite of a very wet afternoon the loyal friends and' supporters of the branch turned up in force and thoroughly appreciated the brightness arid / the warmth of the hall. A most "appetising and dainty home-made tea was served,by the committee, ladies. The prizes were won by Mrs. Doherty (highest score), Mrs. Colquhoun . Weybourne. .; Croxley House Club. The Croxley House Club, "House of •Dickinson," recently inaugurated the season's activities with a successful dance in St. Francis's Hall. In keeping with the title of the dance, the'hall was suitably decorated and "Ole Bill" weH corned a large and enthusiastic gathering. ■• The guests, were entertained during the evening by an .'Awkward Squad" consisting of members of the club and their ..antics with "Big BerthTa," a most formidable home-made gun, were most amusing. Exhibitions of ballroom dancing and tap dancing were very much appreciated. The "grand .march,", during which each daneer'was - presented ■ with a wooden sword and a paper hat, was headed .by pipers and drummers in full 'array. A fine service was rendered to the public at the hockey tournament in Hawcra by*'volunteers in the First Aid Field Division of the Hawera Eed Cross Society. There i\ere between 50 and 60 casualties on the grounds and in tho eourbe of play during the day, and prompt and skilled; attention was given each, case at one or.the other of two dressing stations. The injuries- to players were mostly minor cuts, bruises, and sprains, although R. Scowh (Elthain) was struck in the face by a fas£ ball and had to receive the attention of a doctor. Miss* Seegar (Whangamompna) received a knee injury.and also, required medical aid, as did a small .boy whose foot was cut rather- badly'-whilst pafldling'.in the lnko in the public gardens section of the park. Mrs. Bourke (Inaha) a spectator on the side-line, ,- was struck severely in the face by a rising ball and received the most serious injury of all. Immediate ' attention was forthcoming at the Red Cross tent. Tournament officials paid a waim tribute to the work of the Field Division and the patients treated were equally appreciative of the attention they received;
