MEN ON NO. 5 SCHEME
REDUCTION ESSENTIAL
TRANSFER TO PUBLIC WORKS
I (By Press Association.) ' CHRISTCHURCH, December 18. The Christchurch Unemployment Committee today carried the following resolution: "This committee is.strong- j ly of the opinion that it is essential to reduce the number of men-employed on No. 5 scheme as early as possible; it therefore requests the Unemployment I Board,: in conjunction with the Public Works Department, to consider the possibility of: payment of standard rates on. certain public; works to be'approved by the board,: Government ' -Departments and local bodies to be invited to forward a list of such public works to the board; arid that the sustenance clauses in the Unemployment Act be put into operation as far as unemployable men are concerned."
