RED CROSS APPEAL
"It is regretted that efforts to secure a remission of exchange on. tho amount sent forward to the Leaguo of Kcd Cross Societies in connection with the proposal to enable a Hussi.au child to rejoin its parents in New Zealand have proved unsuccessful," states the Ked Cross Society. "This will mean that tho fund will require to lie exleuded to cover exchange. 11. is anticipated tlia.t the sum of £100 in all will be sufficient. To date the fund stands at £00 13s 3d, leaving approximately £34 10s to find. "So as to avoid any further delay in sending the child forward on her journey at the other end; the Bed Cross Society has remitted to the League of Red Cross Societies the sum of £50. This will take the child from Baniaoul to Tokio, and it is.earncstly hoped that tho full amount required will be available at an early date to enable the child to be brought from Toldo to her parents in Foxton." O. Carey, Mrs. W. J. Tristrain, Mrs. H. E. Carey, and Mr. J. D. McKay (all of Eltham), 2s 6d each; "Anonymous" (Miramar)," Miss G. Wilkio (110 Austin Street), ''Two Little Girls frorh Ngaio," and Younga, 2s each; "Hopeful" (Tataraimaka), Is 6d; "Well-wisher," Karori, Is; total to date, £65, 13s 2d. Subscriptions should be sent to the secretary, Red-Cross Society, 63 Dixon Street, Wellington, and the utmost expedition is asked for so as to enable the society to complete the matter. Any surplus over and above the £100 will Ijo banded on to the parents for the benefit of the child on her arrival^In support of the appeal the principal of the ■Wellington Girls' College has placed the details before the students, and tho girls willing, to assist have.bcon asked to bring the sum of Id each. Tho society feels extremely indebted .to Miss Greig for her co-operation.
