TARIFF COMMISSION

THE TALKIE BUSINESS

(By .Telegraph.—Press Associatiou.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Among' requests made to tho Tariff Commission today was one for tho maintenance of tho duties on cinematograph projectors, and an increase in the tariff on cortaiu parts of imported talkio equipment. Mr. J, Donald, for CvTone Precision Engineers, Ltd., said that at least 25 per cent, of the theatres used a locally-made machine. Tho demand for talkie equipment, present and probable, was small, and could bo readily met by local industry. There had been no trouble in New Zealand over "key" patents. An attempt had been made to stop the supply of films to theatres which did not buy a certain make of foreign machine, but tho Government had intervened.
