NO NEW JUDGE
EFFECT ON FIXTURES
As a result of the Government's decision not to''appoint i a new Judge in the meantime to fill the vacancy caused by tlie retirement of Mr. Justice Adams from the Judiciary on August 3, it has been found necessary to alter the circuit arrangements, and a revision ,of tho fixtures made for the hearing of cases in the Supremo Court at Wellington is also involved. Befereneo to tho position was made by Mr. Justice Reed when addressing couiisol during the hearing of a case in, the Supreme Court yesterday. A suggestion had been made that his Honour should inspect certain property at Lower Hutt, but his Honour : said ho would not have time to do so. Evidently, ho said, it was not the Govern- j ment's intention to"1 appoint a new Judge for a time. Fixtures for Wellington had been made on the assunip--tion that three Judges would bo available to take them, but now Mr. Justice MacGregor would have to go to Christchurch. V ' Originally it was proposed that the new Judge should, take the quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court at Christchurch,' opening* next Tuesday. As no appointment has been made Mr. Justice MacGregor is to preside at Christchurch. His Honour leaves for the south tOnight.
