AN AUCKLAND INQUIRY
REFERRED TO COUNCIL
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, July 26,
An inquiry from the Auckland Yacht and Motor-boat Association as to whether Canterbury was to be represented in the competition tor the Sanders and Cornwell Cups next year produced much discussion at a meeting tonight of the Canterbury Sailing and Power-boat Association. No action was taken except to refer the Auckland Association to the New Zealand Yachting Council, which represents the Otago, Wellington, Canterbury, and Southland Associations.
Mr. G. Curtis, chairman of the meeting, said that the New Zealand Yachting Council would run a class similar in every way to the old Sanders Cup contests, except that it would not be for that trophy. Eight crews would probably compete. All that could be done Was to inform Auckland that the Sanders Cup would be returned as soon as the date for its return came round, and that the New Zealand Council would run its own contest at Lyttelton in 1934. . . The New Zealand Yachting Council forwarded a proposed set of; rules for the New Zealand speed-boat championships proposed to be held at Lyttelton in 1934 in conjunction with the 14ft sailing championship event replacing the Sanders Cup series. It was suggested that the championship be for boats with inboard engines, entered by associations, clubs, or individual owners.
