A MISUNDERSTANDING
SUSPENSION OF TEACHERS
CLAUSE TO BE AMENDED
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, February 16. As the result of a protest made at a meeting of the Otago Education Board on Wednesday morning regarding the powers given the school committees to suspend teachers, a report was forwarded to the Minister, of Education yesterday morning. The chairman of the Otago Board (Mr. James-Wallace) received the following reply today:— "With reference to clause 4 of the Education Amendment Bill, through a misunderstanding power is given to school, committees to suspend teachers for neglect of duties, etc. This was not intended and steps-are now being taken to amend the clause in the Committee stage."
