HOSPITAL OUTDOOR STAFF
PROPOSAL REFERRED BACK
A pv6posal that the system of rationing -the work of tW outdoor stafi shall cease at the end of August .was made by the General Purposes Committee at the meeting of the Hospital Board yesterday,. | Mrs. A. Me Vicar strongly condem'netl putting members of the outdoor staff on half-time. There was plenty of work, to be done at the fever hospital, which, was in a disgraceful condition.. It lookeq-as if the board was going "economy mad. ~ Mr. J. Glover regarded it as1 a scandal that men should beput out of work at the present time,- When work wasso difficult to secure..; ■ ..■■'• . ". '" , Mrs.. P. Fraser. said she. was .pleased that the chairman had changed his miiid in respect to painters who were employees of the board. To carry out the proposed system of reducing men's employment, as now suggested, was scandalous. The chairman (Mr. F. Castle) denied that the fever hospital wa« in the state o£ disrepair implied by Mrs. Me Vicar. _ The question arose on^ an application made, by two painters to be given an extra two days' work each per fortnight. The lecommendation of the committee was referred back for further consideration, and with power to act.* ■ ,
