BLOW TO ROOSEVELT

WASHINGTON, 27th April. - Mr. Eoosevelt's Presidential campaign is up against its first real dis T appointment in the smashing defeat in Massachusetts and the prospect of narrow victory at the best in Pennsylvania in the primaries for choosing delegates. In both States on Tuesday Mr. Smith stemmed the onrush of the leading Democrat aspirant with a showing superior to expectations of any but his own partisans, a showing which revived notably the movement to prevent Mr. Eoosevelt's nomination in the National Convention .despite his enormous lead in delegate strength. President Hoovei: is almost assured of 109 Republican delegate votes in both States.
