DRUNKEN MOTORIST FINED
"Tliese people are really a menace to others on the roads," said Mr. W. H. -Coy, J.P., at the Police Court to-day when he fined Charles Henry Grant, a baker, £25 (in default 14 Says' imprisonment) for attempting to start a ■jhotor-van "when he. was in an intoxicated condition.
When the accused failed to appear, police evidence was called to show that' he was seen to leave, the Cambridge Hotel in company with1 another man at 5.15 yesterday afternoon.- Grant staggered across the footpath, climbed into a motor-van, and attempted to start it. It was stated that he had admitted to the • police that he . had had a few •whiskies during the afternoon, and that he did not intend ;to defend-the-caße, •
