" •At.Papanui railway station, the telephone, which was not in use at the time, was blown off the wall. The officer in charge of the station was using one telephone when lightning shattered the other instrument. The tablet was thrown out.of gear and work was disorgaai3ed.

Passengers! on tram cars and trolley buses had some alarming experiences! On a trolley bus travelling from North Beach to the city a fuse above the motorman's head was blown out three times during the trip.
