The Ministry of Labour's weekly return shows that the total of persons unemployed as at 21st December was 65,883 fewer than in the previous week. Tho largest decreases in unemployment i were in the north-western and northeastern areas. • The total unemployed number was 2,506,000, including half a million women, boys, and girls. Tho weekly tables will be discontinued henceforth, and figures will be issued monthly. This practice, followed by all other countries which compile unemployment returns, was recommended eighteen months ago by the Association of British Chambers of Commerce and has the approval of the Ministry, because it will permit of more detailed analysis and explanations necessary to their correct interpretation being associated with the figures.
