SUBURBS AND WELLINGTON NORTH

(To the Editor.) Sir, —With "Elector" and very many others I protest against the virtual disenfranchisement of every moderate in these electorates. To vote for a Soc-ialist-Labour candidate is unthinkable, to cast a vote for either of the others is to do so with the almost inevitable expectancy that it will do little else but help to deeido who will stand second at the close of the poll, for with a split Coalition yoto a Labour victory is assured. Referring to my own district there is nothing in the record or personality of the two Coalition candidates to impel an overwhelming decision in favour of either; the votes they receive will be those of political "friends" on the one hand and of sympathisers on tho other, but for whom should we vote—wo who desire to be placed in neithor category1? Can nothing be done to clear the issue? The candidate who withdraws now will deserve better of his country than by hanging on tenaciously for a barren honour, for if both stand, certainly neither will succeed. If some form of sensible arbitration is impossible, let them toss up, for as long as the Coalition vote is not split and the seat' lost, it really does not, matter which of them stands. —I am, etc., ANOTHER ELECTOR. Wellington North, 25th November. [Other correspondents have written expressing similar views.—Ed.]
