NEW AWARDS ISSUED
DETAILED RATES OF PAY
The 2s cw Zealand Stewards' Award and the New Zealand Galley Staffs' Award have been issued by the Arbitration Court.
The following' are the monthly rates o£ pay for stewards: —Stewards in charge of cargo steamers, £19 4a; second steward, £15 14s; chief saloon steward (head waiter}, first or secoud saloon, £li 4s; steward in charge of second saloon in vessels m which three classes of passengers arc carried, £15 Us; iirst-grade assistant stewards employed either as bedroom stewards, saloon waiters, printers, or buglers, if acting as either bedroom stewards or saloon waiters, bathroom stewards, messroom stewards, storekeepers, linen-keepers, or barmen, £13 14s; forecabin steward, £14 14s; laundry steward, £14 14s; laundress, £10 ss; second-grade assistant stewards employed either as assistant lorecabiu stewards, boots, maindeck steward, officers' steward, or assistant panrtryinan. £13 4s; pantryman, first or 'second .saloon, £14 4s; second pantryman', where three, or more pantrymen are carried, £13 14s; pantryman, forecabin, £13 14s; assistant stewards, cargo, £13 4s; nigktwatchman, £15 is; cadets under 17, £5 7s Gd; cadets, 17 io 19, £7 17s Od; cadets, 10 to 21, £9' 2s (id; stewardess, £10 us; assistant stewardess, £9 sa; forecabin stewardess, £10 ss. The award is to come into force on Ist December, 1931, and remain operative until 31st August, 1932. .All. rates of remuneration specified in the award are to be subject to the general order of the Court, dated 29th May, 1931.
A memorandum to the award states: — "A number of clauses were referred to the Court. In the main, the Court has followed the expired award, and where alterations have been made, the recent Wellington Coastal Cooka' and Stewards Award has been followed."
GALLEY WORKERS.
Kates of pay fixed for galley workers are as follows:—Passenger Steamers: Chief cook (intercolonial and foreign-going steamers), £22 4s; chief cook (steamers (other than intercolonial and foreigngoing), £20 14s; second cook, £16 14s: extra second cook, £15 14s; third cook, £13 14»; extra third cook, £12 14s; steerage cook (Maunganui and Makura only), £15.45; ship's cook, £16 4s; assistant ship's cook, £12 14s; baker (intercolonial and foreign-going steamers, £18 4s; baker (other than intercoloniiil and foreigngoing steamer?), £17 4s; second baker (where two or more bakers are earned), £15 4s; assistant baker, £14 4s; butcher (intercoloniiil mid foreign-going steamers), £15 14s- butcher (steamers- other than intercolonial and foreign-going), £14 14s; second butcher (where two or more butchers are carried), £14 4s; assistant butcher. £13 4s: seullerymah, £12 14s. Cargo Steamers- Chief cook. £17 4s; second cook (where three employed), £14 4s; assistant cook, £12 Hs. ; . The same stipulation in regard to latca of remuneration being subject to the general ordev is made as m the case ot the stewards' award, and the term is al»o the same. __„ mmmmm »
