PICKING THE CARD

MR. M'LENNAN'S PROPHECY

A prophecy- that there would be :i number of surprises when the numbers went up on election night was made by Mr. K. M'Lennan, Independent Coalition candidate for Wellington Suburbs, in the course of his address at Kelburn last night. He said that Mr. B. A. Wright had forecasted at Northland that the Labour Party would be swept right off the slate. "I don't think that was a well-advised statement to make," said Mr. M'Lennan. "If I may bo allowed to pick the card, I will givo my opinion that four Labour men will be returned in Wellington. Mr. Wright said last election that only a political miracle would put the United Party into power, but they got in."
