MR. NASH AT EASTBOURNE

Just, over 150 people were present in tho Crown Theatre, Eastbourne, last night, to hear an address by the Labour candidate for Hutt, Mr. Walter Nash. Tho meeting was very quiet, and the candidate spoke for an hour and threequarters without an interjection from the audience. At the conclusion of his speech, Mr. Nash answered questions and was aecordod a vote of thanks and confidence without dissent.

Legislation passed at the end of last session was criticised by Mr. Nash. He condemned the limiting of mortgagors relief to farmers, the method of allocation of the £250,000 rcbato on county rates, and of the £100,000 grant for tho purehaso of fertilisers, and took particular objection to the abolition of the graduated land tax. He advocated a reduction of interest charges in the country, but condemned repudiation of any contracts outside.

The Mayor, Mr. S. Fisher, was in the chair.
