SHORTER ROUTE TO BEACH

The proposal to erect a traffic bridge across the northern arm of the Porirua harbour near the present railway bridge at Plimmerton came-up for consideration at yesterday's meeting of the Hutt County Council. The matter was discussed in committee. The project also includes the construction of about a mile of road from the bridge into Plimmerton, thus making the route for motor vehicles nearly eight miles shorter. The council discussed the project thoroughly, and consideration was given to the question of forming , a bridge rating area, and also a special town planning area under tho betterment clauses. No definite decision w-as arrived at, and tho matter was left in the hands of a committee to report at tho next meeting of the council.

The- council is desirous that the erection of the bridge should be proceeded with as soon as possible, as the material for its construction is almost at prewar prices »t present, but has a strong loiidencv tr> advance in price.
