RETURNED SOLDIERS
GRANT FOR UNEMPLOYED
As a result of; representations made by. the Wellington Unemployment Committee, the Wellington War Belief Association has allocated £1000 for the purpose of giving work to unemployed returned soldiers.. It is . proposed to give two, three, or four days' work, according to whether the men are single or married, in one week prior to Christmas,■. and to pay. the men on the basis of 9s a day for single workers and 125.6 d a.day for married workers. The. scheme will embrace'-a fairly wide territory, including. Petone, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Eastbourne, and Johnsonville. Returned soldiers who intend to take : advantage of the scheme will be required to produce their discharge papers. When the list is completed the committee hopes to be in a position to find work for all the applicants, and in this respect the cooperation of the Wellington City Council and other local bodies will be sought. ...
Returned soldiers are asked to report at the bureau, Buckle street, where their names and regimental numbers will be taken, and the name of the unit in which they served. When the complete list is secured, which must be done by Tuesday next, the Unemployment Committee will know how many days lean be given each man.
