DR. L. O. S. POIDEVIN
(Keceived loth November, 9 a-m.)', ', SYDNEY, This Day. ' The death, is announced of Dr. L. O* S. Poidevia. He represented the Statai. in cricket and Australia in the Davi^ Cup. He wrote extensively; on botLj sports. Dr. Poidevin was a member of tnqj Australasian team which met Americgg in. 1906 (a time when N. E. Brooke^ was mot included in the side), and wa^ defeated by 3 matches to 2. H. WarcJ (America) beat Poidevin 6-2, 6-4, 7-5,----and E. D. Little (America) beat Poidevin 6-2. 1-6, 7-5, 7-2. Though A. P."Wilding beat both the Americans, lie] and Poidevin were beaten in thej doubles 7-5, 6-2, 64. Ward and Littla then met Britain in the challenge round^ I and were defeated by the British team; ! (S. H. Smith, E. 1\ Doherty, and H. L,Doherty) by 5 matches to 0. Dr. Poidevin was also actively asso* ciated with cricket, gaining prominency as a player and holding important positions on the administrative side. la England he played for Lancashire and London County, and in Australia he represented New South Wales in threes Sheffield Shield matches, averaging 61*50 in five innings with 140 not out as his 'highest score. la recent years he has been a member of the New South Wales selection committee.
