DUBLIN EN FETE
SCENES AT THE DRAWING
ELABORATE PROCEDURE
DUBLIN, 17th November. A charming array of 200 Irish colleens dressed in fawn harlequin costumes staged an almost theatrical performance in the Plaza ballroom, where ingenious machinery assisted them to mix 7,000,000 counterfoils. The eligible prizes total £2,000,000, allocated in units of £100,000, in each of which the first prize is £30,000, the second £15,000, and the third £10,000, also 53 prizes of £660 for also rans, and 100 cash prizes each of £100. Two miniature electric railways conveyed truck loads of counterfoils toward the mixer, where an artificial 100----mile-an-hour gale gave them the world's greatest shuffle. Armed troops guard the doors throughout the night, and a fire engine stands nearby. Dublin was almost crazy with excitement as armed lorries conveyed the counterfoils from the hospitals' headquarters toward the Plaza. Girls with flashing eyes threw flowers at the lorries, masses of crysanthemuins falling on the rifles of the troops. Others let off fireworks and released streamers. The hotels are full of risitors and the theatres are holding gala nights. Eesidents are too absorbed in the sweepstakes to attend to business.
