IRRIGATION AND MINING

DUNBDIN, -JBtn November. The irrigation of the dry lands of Central Otago and the development of the gold-mining industry were advocated by the Coalitiou candidate for Central Otago, Mr. W. A. Bodkin, in an address at Oturohua on Tuesday night. Mr. Bodkin said' over 200,000 acres in Central Otago could be commanded by water, and if that supply could be provided within three years the land would be providing a prosperous livelihood for more, people than were unemployed in Duncdin to-day. Regarding mining, he said the Government's duty was to spend wisely and well under the guidance of experts.
