STABLEMATES AGAIN

ROSENEATH HANDICAP

Another pair of stablomates, Inflation and La Modernc, who, however, race in different interests, filled the two premier places in the Roseneath Handicap. They, were .first and second favourites respectively, and from the false rail they wholly outclassed their opponents, in very similar manner to what they did at Masterton. Inflation gave H. Gray his first success at the meeting. The pair followed Mister Quex (who had come over from the extreme end of the line) and Sir Pombal on to the course proper, with Merry Way and Midinette also in close attendance, but Inflation ran through at the false rail, followed by La Moderne, and over the final couple of furlongs it was tio face as far as the rest were concerned. Inflation beat La Moderne by a length and a half, and the third horse, Midinette, was over three lengths further away just in front of Mister Quex. Best of the others were Merry Way, Prince'Pombal, Merry Ruler, Volga Boatman, Fusion, and Sir Pombal. The winner is a beautifully-actioned bay colt by Paper Money from the Boniform mure fleeting,- and was bought at Hie yearling sales for 140 guineas by the Pjilmwston North sportsman, Mr. H, K. Edmunds. A half-sister, Golden Flower, showed similar speed a few seasons ago and won several races, but did not have a long career. La Moderne,. who is Gay Ballerina's full-sister, brought 525 guineas at the yearling Bales, but she is a shade inferior to her stablemate on performances to date. Prince Pombal, the bestbacked of the remainder, was not prominent in the early running after having drawn wide, but he came through strongly in the straight. Midinette and Mister Quex both went fair races, particularly the latter, who showed great speed early.
