STABLEMATES SHARE

•ADVENTUS AND JAYSON

The bracketed pair, Atlveutus and Jayson, paid a joint dividend in the Tararua Handicap by finishing in the two major places. They both carry the some colours as Lack, winner of the Wellesley Stakes, and Golden Wings, and both were ridden by Southern horsemen (A. E. Ellis and G. Humphries respectively), who were showing great form in the early events. Adventus fully deserved the success, and Jay.sbn backed him up in fine style. Cape Gold and Gold Pit made the running to the straight, where they were being hotly pressed by Ben Hur, Adventus, Saltpot, Zeebrugge, Jayson, and Esteem, with Jaloux and Koynl Black showing up on the outer. Adventus hit the front at the distance, where Jaloiix challenged, but the latter had finished his run before reaching the post, and Jayson slipped up on the rail to beat him by a short head for second money half a length behind his stablemate,. Gold Pit was two lengths away fourth, then came Beu Hur, Royal Black, Esteem, Zeebrugge, Cape Gold, and Saltpot. The bracket was fifth favourite, and

their joint dividend was a very satisfactory one. The favourite was Esteem, who again had to be rushed along all the way against his will to hold his place, and at the finish, as might be expected, he failed to come on. In a smaller field he will be harder to beat. Jaloux had a great chance, but, although responding well at one point, his run was too short to take him to the winner and he was weakening again at the close. Zeebrugge was disappointing, and Gold Pit would appear to have been overboomed. Ben Iliir did not go as well as on Saturday, but covered extra ground on the turn. Zephyrus missed the jump-out.
