DEATH OF AN INFANT
FOUL PLAY SUSPECTED

MASTERTON, This Day.
That the child had died probably from exposure or an injury to the head was tho verdict returned by tho distr.et Coroner, Mr. E. G.- Eton, at an inquest held at the Masterton Courthouse yesterday,, concerning the death of a nowly'-born male child which was fouud in a. sack in the Ruamahanga riverbed on Saturday.
The circumstances, Mr. Eton added, were suspicious, indicating foul play by some person or persons unknown.
Medical evidence was given by Dr. J. A. Cowie, who stated that the child had lived. It had not bceu drowned, but had probably died of ■exposure or from.an injury to the head, as the bones at the top of the skull moved freely.
