QUARTERLY MEETING

: The quarterly meeting o£ • the Hutt Methodist Church was presided over by the Ecv. H. A. Sharps The Rev. A. Hard:iDg was also present. Motions of condolence were passed to .the relatives of the late' Mr. Mansfield and to Mr. W. T. Strand, the meeting standing in silence while the chairman led in prayer, -._ , .

The chairman and several other members paid grateful tribute to the work of the Rev. A. Harding as locum tenens at .Waiwhetu and Taita. In spite of heavy ,calls on his time and energy for his work for other institutions, Mr. Harding lias given untiring service and has-.the ; satisfaction of seeing real rljpujts in his district. : '"' ". .; The circuit quarterly accounts disclosed a, very satisfactory position1, and also showed that the church' had forwarded £104 15s lid for earthquake relief. The chairman reported that congregations had considerably increased and the members considered that this was largely duo to the special work-of the ministers and the choir.

Mr. Charles Russell gave very ' eneouraging'reports oil the activities of the Sunday school, Bible classes, and Yoiing Worshippers' League, all. of which are progressing steadily. Thanks were accorded to Mr. Withington for his representation of the circuit at. conference and for his report. The chairman reported that the new minister, the Rev. David Williams, would take up his duties the following Sunday, and that he has received splemlid reports of him. -

Several recommendations of the leaders' meeting aiming for increased activity by the church were discussed and adopted. The meeting heartily supported the recommendation that a long service certificate be awarded to. Mr. Attwood, who haß completed fifty years as a local preacher.
