SEATOUN V. W.Y.M.I
At Seatoun Park, the above teams con.tested the opening fixture of the League Championship. Playing conditions were •well-nigh perfect, and there was a satisfactory attendance, when, prompt to time, the following players took the field:— Seatoun: Parkin, Newton, Duffil, Grim■fitone, J. Kershaw, M'Williams; Garrod, E Kershaw, Gibson, M'Kenzie, Wilson. W.Y.M.1.: Redmond; Trott, M'Girr; J3oe, Beer, Pinnegar; Worth, Telford, Poster, Page, M'Leod. '• Winning the toss, Seatoun attacked early, but lacked sting. M'Girr transferred play and Parkin threw clear from Telford. A screaming centre from Wilson 'went begging, Trott eventually forcing play to the other end, where Duffil booted with more force than judgment. The Seatoun van shot often, but the elevation was faulty till Wilson let fly from 'tho corner flag. Redmond, however, saved well, and effectively dealt with two fine drives from J. Kershaw. Telford and Worth tried hard to penetrate the blues defence, but found Duffil hard to pass, poster sent M'Leod away, off-side spoiling a promising movement, and Seatoun laid siege to Redmond's charge. A beautiful rvoss from Garrod was sent high over the top. M'Williams drove hard, and Redjiiond effected a fine one-handed save, and' iilcii clearing from E. Kcrshnw next niiu-
ute when all seemed lost. Playing in determined fashion, Boe kept his wing moving, and Worth swung across to M'Leod, who headed narrowly past. Good transfers by Piunegar gave chances to Telford and Worth, Parkin saving cleverly on both occasions. From a scramble in front of the W.Y.M.I. goal, E. Kcrshaw seemed to have scored, but off-side nullified this counter, and although Seatoun pressed consistently for the rest of the spell, half-time arrived with the score sheet blank. . On resuming, Foster worked in oil 1 arkin, who saved at the expense of a iruitless corner. The Seatoun right, backed by the hard-working Grimstone, combined well, but finished weakly. Pinnegar and M'Girr defended resolutely, and Redmond cleared his lines from the eager Seatoun forwards. Duflil and Newton dealt etfectively with the spasmodic. W.Y. raids, leavin" Kershaw free to open up play. A fine left-footer from this player was turned round the post by Redmond, who repeated the performance from the resulting corner. Trott had the better of some strenuous bouts with the Seatoun left, then Gibson shot over when well placed. At the other end, M'Leod just failed to tret there, but seconds later, neatly turned in a low ball which left Parkin spreadeagled. W.Y.M.1., 1; Seatoun, 0. Seatoun attacked hotly with Grimstono prominent, but hesitation allowed Beer and M'Girr to. punt clear. Wilson and Garrod centred nicely, then M'Leod beat two men only to send weakly past. M'Kenzie executed a neat movement, Redmond running out to meet the winger's parting effort Seconds later, Garrod sent over a well-placed ball which M'Kenzie diverted cutely past the out-rushing goalie. Seatoun, 1; W.Y.M.1., 1. Play now livened up, and. the W.Y. goal had some narrow escapes. The next goal, however, fell to the visitors, the fast-moving Page Waltzing through to give Parkin no chance from- close range. "W.Y.M.1., 2; Seatoun, 1 .Kershaw plied his'-left wing with the ball, and, rWilson and. M'Kenzie rose to the occasion, only dour tackling by J.rott saving the situation. At last, Wilson got in a perfect centre to Gibson, who, meeting it on the run, shook the rigging with an unstable sho.t. This was almost the last kick-of the game, the.final whistle sounding soon' afterwards with the scores: Seatoun, 2;. W.Y.M.1., 2. Mr. C. G. Smith was-the referee. . .■'■ ■• ,-
