FIRST DIVISION

DIAMOND WIN EASILY. ':■■ : Playing at the Kilbirnie Stadium, Diamond defeated..Waterside rather easily by 3 goals to 1. ■ . - ' ' . .-.'■.' . The teams wore:— • . /. . : Diamond: Wyatt;. Wothcrspoon, Guest; ]\i'Leod, Bishop,. "M'Cormaek; K. M'Leod, Jtigby, Dickingon, Smith, Stark. Waterside: Lucas; B.olton, Abernethy; Moon, Strain, Cummings; Hastings, Dunsmnir, Longbottom, Lark, Cullen. There was a high wind which swept the field from end to end, and play m; the first half was disappointing. • Neither team ■ seemed prepared to open out the game, but adopted cautious tactics, with the result that the ball rarely got away. Waterside kicked off, and following mid-held play, Smith advanced Diamond's chance in a nice piece of solo work. The ball went out to K. M'Leod, who sent it behind. Aided by the wind, Waterside kept •up an attack on the Diamond goal, but the forwards did not possess the little extra sting necessary to finish their movements. A change in fortunes saw It. M'Leod away down the wing in fine style, and Lucas came out of goal to save. In close play near the Diamond goal Lark nearly headed in the ball. A determined cifort on the part of Longbottom, who was .supported by Dunsmuir, ended rather iamely, the leather travelling across the goal-mouth. A few minutes later Dickinson worked into a good position, but his shot failed. The Diamond forwards were again prominent, this time Dickinson and Itigby working up well. Lucas, however, was safe. Hastings made a good attempt ■at goal, and Wyatt took the ball at_ the corner.Stark broke away and sent in a high, dropping shot which Lucas saved well. Shortly before half-time was called Wyatt was called on to save a similar shot tent ill by Hastings. - The early portion of the second spell was similar to ,the first, but it was not Jong before Diamond were pressing on the Waterside goal in a determined manner. In close play, Waterside were penalised, mid Wyatt made no mistake with the shot. Diamond I,'AVatevside 0." There was not a great deal of difference between the teams at this stage, but as the game progressed the pace of Diamond began to tell. In nice forward work the ball went out to Stark on the wing. His first shot was saved, but not cleared, and the winger went in to make sure of the second, which lie placed in the corner of the net. Diamond 2, Waterside 0. The nest goal was mot long in coming. R. M'Leod took a corner kick, and placing the ball well, the wind practically carried it into the net. Smith helped. Diamond, 3, Waterside 0. Shortly before time was called Hastings took a corner kick for WaterBide, and Longbottom headed the leather jnto the net, the game ending, Diamond 3, Waterside 1. Eefcr'ec: Mr. C. V. Ward. '
