WILL BRITAIN HELP?
THOMAS REGRETS QUERY
(Received 01st March, 1 p.m.) LONDON, 30th March
In the House of Commons, following the statement by Mr. Thomas, Sir H. O'Neill (Conservative) asked: "Can you give an assurance that if Australia shows a determination, as I am sure she will, to face the real facts of the situation, it will bo the policy of tho British Government to give the great Dominion all possiblo help?" Mr. Thomas: "A more undesirable question I cannot conceive. Do remember tho position of this country and the Government. I expressed tho opinion "on Friday that I could not eoncoivo tho New South Wales decision to repudiate their obligations would be allowed to continue. No greater mistake could be made than to associate the Commonwealtli's decision, of which I have expressed appreciation, with any outsido question.' It would be a tragic mistake to attempt to answer. I am sorry even that such a question could bo asked, because of its possiblo repercussion in other places." >
