The lobaeco. manufacturers arc taking an increased duty for granted in conscquciicc of the receipt of an instruction restricting clearances from bond in April to one-twelfth of the clearances of last year.

In ' consequence Imperial Tobacco sharps fell from 86a 6d to 83s lid, and British-Americans from 83s 9d to S2s Gd; Carrearas, 4} to 4 5-16. Receipts from tobacco in 1929-30 wcro 62J millions.1 The steadily increased taxation has not materially affected the manufacturers' profits.
