In the House of Commons, Mr. Pcthick Lawrence, Secretary for the Treasury, in answer to ,a question, said that winnings from sweepstakes liko tho Irish Free State's wore, not liable for income tax. It would not bo in tho public interest to stato tho number of letters opened, and how much money was stopped, with a view to intercepting subscriptions to the Irish Sweepstake on tho Grand National.
