REVOLT QUELLED IN PERU

LOSS OF LIFE AT LIMA

LIMA, 25th March. Using both light tanks and machineguns mounted on trucks, mutinous troops caused panic in streets of the Peruvian capital, thronged with ovening crowds as they attempted to overthrow the provisional Government by another political and military revolt. The civilians fled to sholtcr. Two hundred lives, mostly those of soldiers in th© Fifth Regiment, which mutinied against its officers, were lost. Under the command of sergeants the insurgents attacked the Government palaco, but the loyal troops subdued them in the early morning. The city has been placed under martial law.
