TARIFF AGREEMENT

OTHER NATIONS PROTEST

LONDON, 22nd March. The. announcement that Germany and Austria have arranged a Customs union has caused surprise in Paris. There is no^ official comment in the absence of exact information, but some French newspapers declare . that the arrangement is simply a tariff union and infringes the Treaty of St. Germain, and similar Austrian agreements. Representatives of France, Italy, and Czechoslovakia visited/ Herr Schobcr, Austrian Foreign Minister, and pointed out that the agreement infringed the Geneva Protocol of 4th October, 1922. Hcrr Schober noted the protests and contended that the agreement could be reconciled with the Protocol.
