PETONE AND MIDLAND.

Midland batted first in the match against Petone at No. 1 wicket, at the Basin Reserve, and made 261. There were several good individual scores, the highest being Baker's 80. Tindill, Doneghue, and Morgan also made good contributions. Rodger was the most successful bowler for Petone, taking four wickets for 65 runs. Petone did not have much' time in which to get going, as the light failed rather early, and at the drawing of. stumps had lost one wicket for 17 runs. Baker and Doneghue, Midland's opening pair, batted freely during their partnership. The score mounted quickly. Doneghue being slightly more aggressive than his partner. After making 41, Doneghue was caught by Roberts off Senior's bowling. Morgan joined Baker, who steadily increased his total. Standidge followed Morgan. Baker reached 80 before be^ ing bowled by Lilbnrne. Standidge and Dustin made 14 and 21 respectively. Tindill's effort kept the batting bright in the latter part of the innings. His 53 was a contrast to the scores made by the last four batsmen. The innings ' closed with the stumping of Newman b.vM.' Nicholls, who kept wickets very well. • Roberts and Smallwood opened for Petone. Roberts had made only 1 when he was bowled by Baker, H. E. -Nieholls was going well at the drawing of stumps.
