LAW AS A CAREER

ADVICE TO PARENTS

A word of advice to parents who were contemplating making lawyers of their sons was given. by Sir Michael Myers (Chief Justice) in an address last evening. "I don't say that there will not always bo room in the profession, for a certain number of men. I don't say 'that there will not always be a limited number of men who will succeed either as solicitors .or barristers or both, but I do say .that parents .who think of making their, sons barristers or solicitors should consider carefully the aptitude of tho particular boy before they decide," said Sir Michael. "Unless the boy has a special aptitude it is no good liis entering the legal profession nowadays." He advised those who were entering the profession to study accountancy for a year or two. There was nothing as good-as accountancy to fit a young, lawyer for his work who aspired to a legal commercial business, which was, Sir. Michael considered, the business of the future.in law in New Zealand.
