STOWAWAY CAUGHT
Hidden in ' wardrobe-
Charged with stowing away on. the Ulimaroa yesterday, Maurice .Moog, a butcher, aged 20, pleaded guilty to the offence, before Mr. T. B. M'Neil, S.M.; in the Magistrate's Court to-day. Sub-Inspector AVsird said that when the ship was searched prior to sailing yesterday the accused was found hidden in the wardrobe in the cabin of the ship's butcher. The cabin door was locked. The accused .said that he was a butcher, and now the killing season was finished he vrs anxious" to get back to. Australia. Ho had called at the company's oflice to got a passage, but as' the ship was full he could not be taken. The accused had £9 in his possession, and' inquiries had shown that he had tried to book a passage. Asked if he had anything to ;say, Moog repeated the statement that he had tried to book his passage, and being unable to get one lie had taken ' tho ■ other chance. He had only £9, and if he stayed here he would not have, had enough to get home. Tho accused ..was lined' £5, in.default. 14 days' imprisonment. "'-...'
