PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Petone Borough Council met last night. The Mayor (Mr. H. M'Kenzis) presided, and thero were also present: —Councillors V. A. Noble,vV. E. Jacobson, E. T. Hogg, J. W. Longman, E. W. Tooma'th J. C. Burns, and C. P. Brocklebank. It was decided to draw the attention of the Petone Fire Board to the necessity of providing moro fire alarm boxes in the borough. ■ '.The question of naming 'the narrow, unformed street, parallel to and south of Waio'ne street, was considered,.: but no finality was reached. Councillors thought' that the public might suggest aVname. • '■'. The Works Committee reported that ft had carefuljy considered an estimate of £1374 9s from the Borough Engineer,- to scarify, re-grade, and seal Jackson street, between the Post Office and Cuba street, to an even camber, and to "provide concrete kerbs. The committee could not see its way to recommend this work being done at the present time, and considered that the engineer should be requested to maintain tho existing surface. The council agreed with this. The Town Clerk reported that the committee set up by the council to deal with the increased bus fares had met, and had a number of suggestions to pass on to the General Manager of Railways.
