"BREACH OF FAITH"

SCHOOL SUBSIDIES COMMITTEES' PROTEST (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, This Day. Criticism of the Government's action in refusing to pay school subsidies until after Ist April next was voicod at a combined meeting of representatives of the school committees of Hastings and surrounding districts hold last night. The following resolution was carried: —"This meeting of the combined school committees protests against the Education Department withholding subsidies on approved works. While we are quite prepared to allow the subsidies to stand over until the financial position of the country improves, we consider til at when the Dsyjartment has given approval for work to proceed and the committees have undertaken or completed that work, payment should be made. To now state that the payments cannot be made until at least Ist April is a distinct breach of faith, and we consider we have, not only a moral but a legal claim against the Department. • Will the Department advise the school committees how they arc to meet their liabilities after completing authorised • works?''
