TOXEUMA AND THE WINTER CUP
Horses of the class of Toxeurua are unusual entries for the Winter Cup. Looking back through the list of winners of the race lOst 121b was the highest weight carried to victory, by Vladimir in 1903, and Kremlin in 1905. Gazique carried lOst lllb to victory in 1919; Some very useful horses have won the Winter Cup, but in most cases'under lenient weights for the race has been a stepping stone to higher things. Toxeuma, on the contrary, has his meritorious deeds behind him and has list 51b to carry. The idea that because topweights fail in a race it is wise to go against them is not held here, for Toxeuma's undoubted class will stand to him. He looks sure to run very prominently, but with list slb obviously will require much iri his favour. The Winter Cup is usually a bustling race, and there are several smart gallopers engaged who will see to it that Toxenma will carry his list 51b from end to end. It is not advocated here j that Toxeuma is any certainty, but a proved belief in the value of class makes it imperative to keep him on the right side.
