CHARITY CUP

A WIN FOR SWIFTS,

At Kelburn Park Swifts and Brooklyn met in a second division league game, which was also the first round for the cup. The ground was a bit heavy after the rain, and the wind was chilly. Extra time had to be played before Swifts won by four goals to two. The teams were:— Swifts.—Forbes; Hillock, Diekson; Bloomfield, Dainty, Bradford; Kelly, Adams; O'Shea, Smith, Hamilton.Brooklyn.—Kershaw; Brown, Sutton; Hughes, Hansen, TJpchurch; Jones, W. Hughes, Anton, Archer, Middleton. The game was fairly fast throughout, but mediocre. Brooklyn were inclined to hold the upper hand for the first thirty minntes, but missed their opportunities when in front of goal. Shortly before half-time Swifts asserted themselves, O'Shea scoring the only goal of the first spell: During the second spell most of the attacking was done by Swifts. Adams added their second goal.. Brooklyn, however, came to light temporarily and used their weight to effect, notching two goals to make the score equal when time was called. In the extra spell Swifts were very much on top, and O'Shea and Adams put the issue beyond all'doubt by each scoring again, making Swifts the winners by four to two. Mr. E. Watts was referee.
