THE LOST THIMBLE

One day when I was lodkiag in the woods for my sister's los 4 silver thimble, I heard a little ! whisjper,. and it said, "What are you looking for, little boy?" I got sucn a scare as I turned round, for there sitting on a leaf was a little elf, bo I answered his questioii and said, ''I am looking for my sister's thimble that was loet a few days ago. It was a silver one." The elf said to me, "I will tell you where to.find it, but you must be very careful." "Yes," I said very shyly, for it was the first time I. had seen a little elf.

.."Well," he said, "you will fcave to go into the middle of the woods andi whon you get there yon will see a. big fat tree, and its trunk is like "a face, so you won't miss it. "I will fey not to miss it, but what will I do? Who will be there?" I said. Tht elf continued: "You will look up and sea somo squirrels, and at the hoed of them is their Queen. Sho has got your sister's thimble." "I must bo-going now;, good-fcye." "Good-bye," I called out after him, and off I trotted, too, to where the elf told me. After I had walked a few steps i stopped and looked round, and at the side of me was this big tree. Then I looked up and bere were all the squirrels with their Queen at their head; I asked for my thimble, which I received very kindfully. After I had a talk With them I walked home, and my sister was glad that I had founa her precious thimble. • "JUMBa" Nowtown.
