RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to "The Evening Post.")
CHBISTCHUBCH,_ This Day. _ Training operations at Biccarton this morning did not arbuse much interest. Heavy rain fell during1 tlio nigM, and although it ceased before work, commenced a. bitterly cold wind was in evidence. ' All galloping was done on number one grass track, which was in fair order.' «, Some of the horses' with engagements at Dunedin Meeting were sent along, at about their " best, but others were restricted to easier tasks.
Badiata galloped a mile and a quarter in 2min 24see, taking 59 4-ssec for the last half-mile; He will not be schooled again prior to his departure f Oi- Winga : tui, his trainer'being quite satisfied with his •lumping. Badiate looks well, ana he will have to.be reckoned with m cross-country events at Dunedin. Subdivision and Tripaway went out to work six furlongs in company.' Tripaway was not ,in galloping' mood, and Subdivision, under a Strong pull, finished six lengths in front, after being twice that "listance elqar of his mate at one stage. The journey occupied lmiir 23 l-ssec, tho last half-mile taking 56 sec. These two will accompany Badiate to Wingatui.. It is probable this trip will bring Tripaway 's racing, career to a close, and she will be retired to the stud. ■■•■..
Straightcourso was half a length in front of Semper Paratus at the end of sis furlongs in lmin 19 3-ssee, while Full Feather narrowly defeated Waterline over a mile in lmin 44 2-ssec. H. Cutts will take these four horses South to-irorrow to represent Sir .Charles Clifford at Dunedin. They are in good fettle, and they should pay their way on the trip Arikiwai covered, seven furlongs in lmin 30 l-sscc, Dunraven assisting him over the last half-mile in 52 l-ssefe. Arikiwai looks well after his race at Ashburton, and if tho Wingatui track is reasonably firm he should show- up prominently in the Birthday Handicap. Desert Song, Aberfeldy, and Gala Day were associated over half a mile up the back, which they left behind in 51 see—a useful effort.
Toawai and Miss Bradbury went to do six furlongs in company. Toawai bolted, however, and Miss Bradbury ran five alone in lniin 5 l-ssec. Sho looks nono tho worse for her race at Ashburton.
Amorist (0 Salt) jumped two hurdles, giving a good exhibition. , Most of tho Eiee irton trainers -\yith horses engaged at the Dunedin Meeting will go South on Thursday. A. E. Ellis, who won the Great Northern Hurdles on Mister Gamp last year,
will not be at Ellerslio on this occasion. He has a number of engagements at the Dunedin Meeting. • . ■ .
