AUCKLAND, This Day.
The weather was showery for training at Ellerslie this morning. Nevertheless there was a good attendance of spectators, ,who were treated to some interesting, worlt. Hurdles were erected oil the-course proper, and No. 1 grass track was available for fast work. The steeplechase course, including the hill, was also open. The going was holding. On the No. 1 grass, Gold Money was the first "to work, covering sis furlongs in Imin 20 -4-ssec. King Emerald was sent over a round in, 2min 2sec, the last seven furlongs taking Imin -. 38seel . Eager Rose jumped off at the six furlongs post, and finished up in Imin 19 4-ssec. This mare is in good fettle. Corinax, Hannibal, and Restaurant finished in that order at the end of seven furlongs. They ran the first three in 41 2-ssee, and the full distaneo is Imin •35 2-ssec. Hoariri ran home from the three-fur-long peg in 39sec. Ho looks improved after his race: at Taumarunui. , Imperial Prince'and Brampton weretogether in front of Principal at the end of four furlongs, run in 54seQ. Operatic took 54 3-ssee to run half a mile, but could have done better. Roman Pearl was going better than Spring Abbey at the. completion of five' furlongs, covered in Imin 8 l-ssec. Sir Archie, Omeo, Ponjola, 'and Maunga were companions over a round, running the distance in 2min 2see. The last mile was covered in lmin-53sec. Sir Archie finished in front of Ponjola. and Omeo, with Maunga, who tailed off early, well last. Havering finished in front.of Sir Mond over six furlongs in Imin 21 2-5 sec. , Quineoma and. Mountain Guide were sent over eleven furlongs,. completing the task in 2min 53 4-ssec,. the. last six taking Imin 29 3-ssee. The jumpers Kawini (Olive), Carlaris (Stanway), and Goofie (Hall) were given a school over five hurdles on the course proper, finishing in 2min 45 1-5 sec. Kawini was just in front of Carlaris at the finish, but the- former, was lame after he cooled off. : Dark Prince (W. Kowe) and Harbour View (J. M' t Eae) gave a ..safe displayover four hurdles, Dark' Prince going the better. "■ Elysianor (H. Dulieu), over four hurdles, gave a satisfactory display. Odin (H. Dulieu), Rahepoto (Stanway), and Archibald (Olive) set out for a round over the big fences. They started at the sod'wall-at the top of the straight, where Archibald baulked and lost his rider. The other pair continued on, both jumping well, but after clearing the fences on the top of the hill Odin was pulled. up owing to some gear breaking, and Rahepoto, after clearing the stone wall at the foot of the hill, was pulled'on to the course proper, and finished up the task well., Archibald was tried at the sod wall, but fell, and was not further persevered with.,, ■ The following horses have arrived to fulfil engagements at the, Great Northern Meting: King's Jest, Grattus, Bold Front, Marble King,-and Glenstar.
