A WIN FOR V.M.C.A.

V.M.C.A. deserved to beat University by 3 goals to 2. At the start it appeared that the students would carry the day, for they broke through soon after the bully and Simpson, scored without much difficulty. For some time afterwards, Young Men held the upper hand, but the forwards were over-eager and valuable scoring chances went begging. At length, however, they were ■successful/ Ferguson being given a good opportunity of which lie readily availed himself. The M.M.C.A. defence wad severely tested for awhile; then from a clearance by Falconer, the forwards went away and M'Donald took a good puss to score. V.M.C.A.. 'I, University 1. The University forwards were not getting sufficient support from the backs, but they worked well together and gave the V.M.C.A. backs plenty to do. After the interval, Young Men returned to the attack, .but a sound defence kept them in check. Speiiep-Salos showed up well in a run down the wing, but-the centre was weak, and the V.M.C.A. vanguard secured the ball, Ferguson being prominent until he was struck over the eye by the ball. This necessitated his retirement from the field for. a few minutes, and University, playing with determination, were able to get through and score from the stick of Spence-Sttles. Young, Men came back towards the end of the f-'amo, and 'Joben scored the winning goal with a well-timed shot. Messrs. 1). C. Armstrong and H. J. Smith were the referees. WIN ON PENALTY BULLY. The match between Karori and Hutt was a fast, open game, both teams being very evenly matched. Karori were the first to show out, but before long both teams worn attacking strongly. In tlic first half, play was up and down the field, and the half-time whistle went without reore. Tn the' second spell, Hutt made a determined eit'orr, but the Blacks were always on the ball and kept the gamp very even. After a period of hard play. Karori took the offensive, and had the forwards been in position there would certainly have been a score. On more thnn one occasion Watchman shot unsuccessfully, and then-the visitors gained the- upper hand, and the Karori backs were kept busy. Good work by the Hutt halves gnve the forwards an opportunity of working upfield, but Spiers and Pcrrin kept the movement in check. Piny again fluctuated, and the position was unchanged until about ten minutes before the final whistle, when Roberts, from a penalty bully given against Gutry, Hutt's right full-back, netted, and gave Karori the victory. The game ended Karori 1, Hutt 0. . Mr. H. Hatch was the referee.
