ISLAND BAY v. SWIFTS.
Island Bay defeated Swifts at Wakefield Park by 5 goals to 2. Again Swifts were working under . difficulties, for several of their regular players were not playing..' The teams were: — 1
Island Bay.—Restieux; Kerr, Wheeler; Triekef, Thomas, Corrin;. Neale, Mason; Lauehlan, Moug, Hepburnc. Swifts.—Dennis; Dickson, Getson; Bloomfield, Dainty, Forbes;. Kelly, Smith, Adams, Hamilton,.-Southern.. .- The • garde opened very energetically, Swifts playing into a stiff wind. After a brisk encounter about the half-way line, the Island Bay forwards secured the ball, and when they, had broken through the Swift defence Lauchlau scored with a well-timed shot. The play was very brisk on both sides, but Island Bay were playing slightly the better game. The score was not added to until just before half-time, when Tricker added to Island Bay's total with an unexpected shot. In the next spell Swifts had the advantage of the wind and they, endeavoured to make the greatest possible use of it. Despite their. efforts, Hepburne centred and scored another' goal for Island Bay. His success was quicldy followed by ano'her goal when Mason Bent, the ball between the uprights. Moug, Island Bay's inside left, made a gift of a goal to Swifts when he accidentally sent the ball past his own goalie. Swifts, ■ encouraged by I this unexpected goal, began to bustle the Island Bay backs. An accurate centre by Kelly gave Smith his opportunity and he scored. Swifts endeavoured to increase their score, but their efforts were unavailing. Another goal was scored against them when Mason, with ;i powerful kick, !,sent_ the ball past Dennis, the Swifts' goalie, makiiife the final score, Island Bay, 5; Swifts, 2. Mr. Fetters was the referee.
