LEVIN MEMORIAL HOME
A gratifying report for the past year,, which shows steady .progress, is to be presented at .the thirty-fifth : .anhuaL: meeting, of the Levin Home, for Girls. Established in memory of- the late W. H. Levin by the 7 Wellington Ladies' Christian Association, and a committee of Wellington citizens, the homeus carried on mainly by Voluntary contributions. ■••■ • . •• " There are 27 children in the home, all but two attending school. During the year-four children left the homo and seven were admitted. . Miss Richardson ■has proved a souree i of strength in the administration, and' has continued ■ the best traditions of' the institution, according to t. c report. Regret is expressed at the resignation of the assistant matron, Miss Powell, whose services are gratefully appreciated. Miss Millar, ex-house mistress of Solway College, was appointed in her place. Miss.Dalby is'second assistant. Past inmates still continue to visit the home,> while m September last Lady Alice Fergusson was a visitor. . •...::. The homo is slowly, recovering from the disastrous fire last year. Gratitude is expressed for the grant of £200 from the Macarthy Trust, and a further bequest of £130 10s 6d from the Mary Jackson Estate. The demands on the f^nds are heavy, and it is;only by the continued kindness of the public and friends that the work is carried on. The annual gift tea in September realised £67 6s, besides many subscriptions. Dri Gordon Kemp has again attended to the health of the children, also Dr. Martin. The Bey. N. S. Barnett has given religious instruction.. Miss M'Leod joined the committee during the.year, and regret is expressed" at the death of Mrs. Menzies, for mlany years a valued helper in the work ortho home.
Numerous individuals, firms, and organisations that have-assisted the institution are thanked. The report states that the work of interest and kindly assistance is, under the circumstances, ,a pleasure for all connected with the administration of the institution.
