NORTHLAND HORTICULTURAL SHOW
The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup) opened the annual summer Show at St. Anne's, Northland, last Saturday. He was accompanied by Mrs. Troup, who was presented with a dainty posy by little Louie Honsa. Mr. Troup congratulated the society on its beautiful display, and spoke interestingly on the influence of horticulture on architecture in botii wwient and modern times. The outstanding' ieauu c of the Show was undoubtedly ihe exhibition of gladioli. Among so many gorgeous blooms it was a difficult matter to choose a champion, but the judge finally (elected Mr. H. E. Edwards's "Hinemoa" for the honour. Mr. B. Sutherland's beautiful pot plants and cut flowers were artistically displayed by Mr. Geo. Fearn, and added greatly to the tasteful appearance of the hall.

Brown's trophy for most pomls in the Gladioli section was won by Mr. W. Steer, of Miramar, the last holder, who has generously re-donated it to the society. Mr. \V. Platt's trophy was won by Mrs. yon Keisenberg for most point* in the Domestic section, and Mrs. Bernech gained Mr. Geo. Fearn's tea set for most points in the Gladioli class. During the- afternoon and evening musical items were greatly enjoyed through the medium of a panatrope kindly, loaned by Messrs. l'inney and Co.
