THE COAL TRADE
OPPORTUNITY FOE NEW ZEALAND
"The trouble in the Australian coalmining industry has given tho mines, of the Dominion a great opportunity," said the Minißter of Mines (the Hon. W. A. Veitch; in an interview at Greymouth on Tuesday. "The better service they give now, tho more able they will be to combat competition, which is sure to come-from Australia when the present unfortunate industrial , trouble is ended. Some'years ago, the coal trade was lost iv consequence of the failure of tho New Zealand mines to supply a first-class article. I hope those respoaIsible.for marketing the present output will ootitinue to sco that clean coal is supplied to their clients. The reason I am anxious to bring tho State mines to their highest efficiency is to ensure that they.will be prepared for the keen' competition which is inevitable when the trouble ends in Australia."
